This is a piece of equipment we can absolutely see the value in for medium to long range hunters, professional pest controllers, spotlighting the paddocks at night, NRL style field matches & training in the hills with targets setup all over the place.
We have been running one on our AT-X since April, it is quick, small and quickly provides accurate, Applied Ballistics driven firing solutions.
The main draw card for rifle mounted laser range finders is that they allow the shooter to stay on the rifle. Once the laser is setup and configured, simply aim at and lase the target, a ballistic solution will be displayed on the screen facing the shooter. Apply this correction, fire and adjust as required. This is an ENORMOUS step forward in efficiency.
Until recently, mounted LRF units with onboard ballistic software in this space were generally priced north of $10,000 per unit.
You will need a section of picatinny rail co-aligned with your optic in order to properly mount and utilise this laser, sold separately, from elsewhere.

WHICH RAIL DO I NEED TO MOUNT THIS TO MY SCOPE RINGS?
We use the Spuhr 4603B (BEAST 34mm, 20MOA) ISMS mount (discontinued) scope rings for our ATACR scopes. The rail that attaches to the top caps, that allows the mounting of the FIRE4000 laser is the "Spuhr A-0029" that is 25mm tall and 9 rails deep, it is referred to as the "Wilcox RAPTAR Adapter" (click this link for more) There are of course other options, however this is what we use.
